Fall Meeting
I hosted a fall meeting this morning at OSHS during Flex period. Here’s a recap of what we spoke about:
Big schedule this year! 3 scrimmages and Somers is coming down to play us during regular season. If you’re looking for a sign that Old Saybrook Lacrosse is moving up in the ranks, this is it.
We’ve got over 20(!) signed up to play indoor in Montville on Sunday mornings starting in January. 1 hour games, 7am weekly. It’s a good introduction to the pace of a HS game and the physicality involved. Interested in joining? Reach out to me and I’ll connect you with Sarah Percival who manages the registration.
To prepare for the season start, I’ll hold a training camp 1 week before practice. More about this as we get closer.
As is our tradition, day 1 of practice we run the PRT, physical readiness test. I use the same test as our service academies expect from their applicants. It’s a timed mile, push ups, plank, and shuttle runs (all with very little rest time in between each event). Be ready for this. All training can be done with zero equipment.
To communicate, I maintain this website (saybrooklacrosse.com) and use Remind. Parents are welcome to join - link: https://www.remind.com/join/oshsblax
I encouraged everyone to play a winter sport. You’ll stay in shape and pick up things you can use in lacrosse (maybe it’s a cross-over move in basketball or endurance from track or a fake in hockey). Get out there and play.
Greyson, Julian and Jamison are going to be great captains. If you have questions, they are a great resource or you can always reach out to me directly: jmason@oldsaybrookschools.org.
The season will be here before you know it. I can’t wait.
